pro-lifers = pro-forcers?…

more child-rape victims for anti-choicers to torment

But that’s the “pro-life” movement for you: People who have no moral qualms about forcing a 14-year-old rape victim to carry a pregnancy to term and give birth against her will. I would think that at some point, anti-choicers would take a good hard look at themselves and think, “You know, it takes a real asshole to force child rape victims to give birth when they are already emotionally devastated and physically injured and clearly do not want to be forced to have a baby.” But, nah.

This case does clarify a few things (and not just the utter lack of empathy that antichoicers feel towards women and girls). It shows how utterly hostile the anti-choice position is to basic ethical and moral considerations. They’re willing to stalk and harass child rape victims, break up families, and breach doctor-patient confidentiality with the intention of inflicting further emotional (and potentially physical) harm on their patients. They refuse to do the most basic referrals if they dislike a particular procedure, and they threaten all who disagree with them with excommunication (not to mention harassment and violence). They’re even willing to abuse the criminal and juvenile justice systems to further their ideology.

terrible.

new york, new york

June 19, 2008

my room:

cute bamboo-themed cup:

music about ‘new york, new york’ by the canon logic, but i actually like ‘the system’ better.

wednesday was the subway system fiasco. = P i must’ve gone in the wrong direction 5 times, transferred trains like 9 times, between 60-something and 125th street. i kept getting off the wrong train because what if there’s a better train that more accurately matches the directions that i’ve been given? of course, i get on the ‘right’ train only to go in the wrong direction. then i come back down. then get off the train to get my bearings, only to get on a train that’s either heading in the wrong direction, or i’ve convinced myself that i’m on the wrong train when i was actually on the correct one. it was a good subway learning experience, though. i don’t like the subway system too much.

of course, when i finally got to union square, it was raining, and my cellphone wasn’t working.

the westside market is cool. i’ve been buying food there lately. perhaps i will just stick to wandering around broadway after work. more lengthy adventures are for the weekends.

i’ve also made the decision to wander around the museum for half an hour every day. this was after jim webster gave us a tour (and a book that he wrote) about the hall of planet earth that exposed me to the awesomeness of working in a museum. i wandered through the hall of evolutionary history (or whatever it’s called) looking at giant castings of dinosaur bones and stuff. so very awesome.

all in all, so far, i’ve felt safer here than i do in parts of seattle. i’ve also noticed that there are significantly more black people and spanish-speaking people (which includes a healthy portion of the aforementioned black people) here. it’s cool. it’s a sign of diversity! not as many asians, heh. i hear so many languages here. eavesdrop on french. hehe.

Iraqi mother killed after speaking out

iraqi mother killed after speaking out

BASRA, Iraq, June 1 (UPI) — An Iraqi mother who told the international media about the honor killing of her teenage daughter has been killed in Iraq, a British newspaper reported.

While Leila Hussein had been in hiding since she told the story of her child’s death, unidentified assailants fatally shot her May 17 as she was going to meet someone who could smuggle her out of the country, The Observer reported.

Hussein had feared for her life since she told the Observer how her husband had allegedly brutally suffocated, stomped and stabbed their 17-year-old daughter to death March 16 in an attempt to preserve the family’s honor after the girl befriended a British soldier.

Hussein divorced her husband two weeks after his alleged crime, breaking an Iraq tradition where women rarely leave their husbands.

Her actions also led her sons, ages 21 and 23, to disown her for violating those traditions, the Observer said.

Police told the newspaper there was no evidence in Hussein’s shooting to indicate her family had anything to do with her death.

the material

i like this band. the material

sounds a bit like a verse unsung, but with less of a beat. the lead singer is a girl with a rich and explosive voice. i like.
